G10/G11 (Piston and Rod Seals)
Automatic U-rings 1130 (G10/G11) are designed for sealing pistons, rams, and piston rods in hydraulic applications. When used as seals on piston rods or rams, these fabric U-rings are combined with and elastic rubber male adapter.
In this case the U-ring sets are installed with slight axial adjustment, resulting in deformation of the male adapter. The effect is to support the preload on the U-ring sealing lips, and thus ensure adequate wiping in the low pressure range.
Fabric U-ring sets for sealing on double-acting pistons are equipped with male adapters of harder material. These adapters are designed not to give lip preload support, and thereby to avoid any pressure build-up between the seals. In addition, any stressing of the U-rings in their housing is eliminated.
The automatic U-ring 1130 (G10/G11) is somewhat similar in design to U-ring 1120. The installed height, however, is considerably less. This is equal to the section width (H = B). This U-ring in combination with rubber male adapters provides an especially small depth requiring seal. The short robust sealing lips have a sufficient wiping action even in the low pressure range. Compared however with the wiping effect of U-ring 1120, a thicker oil film is left with 1130. Friction is lower also in the higher pressure range, which results in reduced wear. Automatic U-ring 1130 is used for piston and piston rod sealing in hydraulic cylinders. In conjunction with a rubber male adapter, it is suitable also as a static seal, where the clearance gap is too large for a rubber O-ring.
